Honorary Award for Subsea 7 Ambassador

Subsea 7 is celebrating after a long-standing employee is honoured at this year’s Energy North Awards.

Caithness-born General Manager, Willie Watt, who joined the global leader in seabed-to-surface engineering construction and services more than 30 years ago, received the honorary North Ambassador 2013 award for his commitment and dedication to the industry in the Highlands and Islands. He is currently responsible for managing the Subsea 7 pipeline bundle fabrication site in Caithness.

The Energy North Awards, organised by trade body Energy North and sponsored by law firm Harper Macleod LLP, recognises the top organisations and individuals in the oil and gas, renewables and supply chain industries across the region, from Shetland to Aberdeen.

“As a result, I am in regular talks with primary and secondary schools as a means of engaging them in different initiatives which will energise them towards a future in the energy industry.”

For Willie his work is all about large numbers. Over the years he’s project managed more than 35 multi-million pound projects, more than 50 bundle systems and more than 250,000 tonnes of pipeline bundles and associated structures.

A Chairman of Wick Harbour Authority (WHA), Willie brings his vast commercial experience to the harbour and has been actively involved in the diversification and development of new income streams.

Ian Couper, chief executive at Energy North, added: “Willie is a very worthy winner of our coveted Ambassador Award. This title recognises his dedicated efforts to promote the industry in Caithness, and indeed the Highlands and Islands as a whole, as well as its wider potential for growth.

“He is an asset to our industry and I look forward to hearing of his continued success in the future.”

Willie Watt said: “I am very honoured to have received the award which is testament to the great work that Subsea 7 delivers out with the main hub in Abereen

“One of our main focuses is to educate Caitness-based youngsters on the type of work that’s available in the area so that they can align their education and experience accordingly.
